About BasketWatch

BasketWatch is an independent Irish grocery price intelligence service. We track the shelf prices, promotions and loyalty offers of around 45,000 grocery products every day across the four largest supermarkets in Ireland: Aldi, Tesco, SuperValu and Dunnes Stores.

What we do

Every day we collect the public catalogue and prices from each retailer and add them to a growing historical record of what Irish grocery prices actually do, product by product. That dataset powers four things: our public Price Pulse data stories, a live price dashboard, a clean data API, and a weekly briefing used by retailers, suppliers, researchers and the press. Shoppers can also put it to work directly with our free grocery price comparison tool, which shows which supermarket is cheapest on the products they buy.

Our editorial approach

Every figure we publish comes from our own daily measurement, not third-party consumer panels or estimates. We keep the three things that move a grocery price separate: the shelf ticket, temporary promotions, and loyalty-card pricing (such as Tesco Clubcard and SuperValu Real Rewards). We never blend them into a single number. When we report inflation, we mean the change in the shelf ticket itself, so a promotion ending is never counted as a price rise. The full detail is on our methodology page.

Independence

BasketWatch is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any retailer. We collect data from publicly available sources for lawful market research, and we publish our figures so anyone can see the workings rather than take a headline on trust.

Who produces it

BasketWatch's data collection and editorial work is produced by the BasketWatch Data Desk, the team that builds and runs the daily price-tracking pipeline behind every report on this site.
